Bradford Searles, General Manager New Jersey

We are in our fourth year in the extremely saturated and competitive landscape market of New Jersey.  Bradford is the general manager of the New Jersey branch.  Watching Terranova expand, Bradford has made strides in the company and also among the networks of clients we proudly maintain.  We sat down with Bradford to discuss the success and rapid expansion in the New Jersey market.

What  factors have attributed to the company's growth?

New Jersey has a high concentration of landscapers.  This fact proves to be less of a challenge than it may seem.  Many commercial industries who are headquartered in New Jersey and have been for decades were now seeking change, innovation and a fresh look on the "norm".  I feel we have provided many of our customers with that "like new" feeling because we know that relating to the customer is the most rewarding portion of the business.  Penetrating a market full of stagnant, although well established, landscapers helped us also get ideas of what customers in this region are really looking for.  We set our internal goals much higher which in turn raises the bar for the quality extended to our customers.  We make it personal.

New Jersey is and has always been a wide open market.  Plenty of industries have settled here and their growth is a sure sign of sustainability.  I can attribute much of our company's growth to the tenacious teams we employ, the foundations we have established with new and existing customers and really our ability to suit the individual needs of each client.  With this philosophy, we're easily able to work with a varied clientele.

How have you prepared for expansion in such a short period of time?

Simply put, we don't grow out of control we never bite off more than we can chew, so to speak.  Sound, smart decision making and over 20 years of experience enable us to navigate through the obstacles that this crowded and competitive market may present. We like to stay on the cutting edge of all advancements which helps promote efficiency, and efficiency promotes growth. We strive to be the "Green Industry" employer of choice! I believe in only recruiting the best and continued education for my teams.  There's lots of large landscape companies in NJ, but quantity is not what keeps a customer happy.  We always aim to provide above average results which can only be produced by hiring candidates who are well trained and knowledgable and are passionate about customer satisfaction.  Since we expanded into the market four years ago our goals have always been to establish a strong core group of clients and deliver consistent results. The reward comes by way of referral, which has opened many exciting opportunities for Terranova. The future's bright!
